Student attendance management system with automatic absence alerts
Take attendance in seconds, keep the timetable and homework in one place, enter marks by subject and print progress cards – while parents follow along in the app.
Updated
Attendance in a tap
- Present, absent, late or leave for each student, with live counts at the top.
- “All present” for normal days – then change only those who are away.
- Absence alerts to parents automatically when attendance is saved.
- Staff attendance – punch in and punch out from the dashboard or app.
- Attendance reports by class and student for any period.
When a student is marked absent, the parent hears about it through the school communication app. Attendance sits next to marks in report cards and results, and on each student’s profile. To mark a sample class, book a free School MS demo.

Taking attendance in under a minute
Paper registers take time, and the data stays on paper. An online attendance app for schools lets the class teacher mark the class on a phone or computer, with everyone marked present by default so only absentees and late-comers need a tap. The record is saved instantly and parents can be told the same morning.
In School MS teachers mark present, absent, late or leave for their class and date. If you switch on absence alerts, parents of absent children receive a WhatsApp or SMS automatically, and repeated absences can raise a follow-up for the class teacher.

Why attendance data matters beyond the register
Attendance is often the first sign that a student needs help. When attendance sits in the same system as marks, fees and parent messages, the class teacher can see a pattern early – a child absent every Monday, or attendance dropping before exams – and contact the family with the full picture in front of them.
What to check in a student attendance management system
Questions to ask before you choose.
| What to check | How School MS does it |
|---|---|
| Speed | Can a teacher mark a class of 40 in under a minute? |
| Parent alerts | Are parents told automatically when their child is absent? |
| Mobile | Can teachers mark attendance from a phone in the classroom? |
| Staff attendance | Can staff punch in and out from the app? |
| Reports | Can you see attendance by class and date range, and students below a threshold? |
Timetable software in the same system
The timetable decides who teaches which class and when. In School MS class timetables are set up once and shown to students and parents in the app, so families know the day's periods without asking the office, and teachers see their own classes for the day on their dashboard.
Keeping the timetable, attendance and marks in one system also means that when a teacher is absent, the office can see which classes are affected that day and arrange cover, instead of finding out when a class is left unattended.
At the end of the term, attendance figures for each student are already in the system, so they can be shown alongside results without anyone counting days in a paper register. Class-wise attendance reports also help the principal compare sections and follow up on classes where attendance is slipping. Over a full year, this gives the school an accurate attendance record for every student without any extra paperwork for teachers or the office.
Attendance and exams – common questions
How do teachers take attendance?
Teachers open Attendance (or Take attendance in the app), choose the class and date, and tap present, absent, late or leave for each student – or “All present” first and change the few who are away. Parents of absent children can be alerted automatically.
Can students mark attendance with a QR code?
Yes. Student ID cards carry a QR code that can be scanned for attendance.
Can we print report cards?
Yes. Progress cards are printed from the marks entered for an exam, for a whole class or one student.
Do parents see results immediately?
Results appear to parents and students only after you publish the exam.
Is there an online attendance app for teachers?
Yes. Teachers mark attendance from the School MS app or the website, with everyone present by default so only absentees and late-comers need a tap. Absence alerts can go to parents automatically.
Can we see students with low attendance?
Yes. The attendance reports show attendance by class and date range, and the teacher dashboard lists students who are below the attendance level the school sets, so the class teacher can contact the family early.
